Ronnie,
I agree about Wind Beneath My Wings. I absolutely HATE that song but adore Bette Midler. I think I Can Only Imagine is on the cusp of being overused, but it's a beautiful song.

When my Granddad passed away songs we had at his funeral were "I Saw the Light" by Hank Williams (it was a song Granddad always sang when he was pickin' and grinnin').

My uncle had a hard rock song at his funeral "Jump Start My Heart" which was graveside and was not only totally a song he loved but funny, as it was intended with his morbid sense of humor. It's not often you smile at a graveside service and this was mission accomplished with him!

I absolutely love the Randy Travis version of "Amazing Grace" which is twangy, but so deep and rich sounding that it makes me feel close to God and THAT is a compliment.

I sang "The Prayer" with some guy at a funeral last year. I never thought of that song being a funeral song, but it worked well. "We Shall Behold Him" is another good one, for older people, that is :) I have a list of songs that I want sung at my funeral written in my bible. "In Christ Alone" tops that list (the cool one by Passion-I think, not the cheesy one you hear on the radio) I think I am Free and How Great is our God would be appropriate funeral songs as well.

I have been thinking about funeral songs myself recently. Just a little FYI:) My top 3 songs for my funeral would be "Amazing Grace" the Chris Tomlin way, "I Can Only Imagine" (what a message it has) and my favorite is "Above All" by Michael W. Smith.
This song helped me so much through my divorce to Gordon. A divorce is so much like a death. You have some of the same greiving process. The words of this song touched my heart so. I remember not even being able to make it though sing it without breaking down. I thought I would share some of the words in the chorus in case someone is going through a greiving process now. i hope this song touches someones heart as it did mine.

Crucified, Laid behind a stone, You lived to die, Rejected and alone, Like a rose, Trampled on the ground, You took fall, And thought of me, Above all
