My Hero
April 19th, 2009I just noticed this video of “My Hero” from last Sunday. Check it out!
Hello, and welcome to the April 19th edition of Sunday Setlist.
Today at GracePoint Church, it was week 2 of the “Rockstar” series. Bryson preached a great message about our “entourage”. He posed the question: are we hanging out with people who build us up, or suck us dry? I’m sure there was some squirming going on…
As with anything titled “Rockstar”, you would expect to hear some great music. This morning didn’t disappoint. We saw the return of Tommy on lead guitar, who took a few months off after the birth of his second child. It was also Carmen’s first time to sing lead vocals on a song at GP. Good times!
The Setlist:
Personal Jesus … I have to admit, it was little odd for me hearing the band rock some Depeche Mode. It’s not their typical sound…
Breathe is an awesome song by Jeremy Camp. I think it’s been at least a year since it saw the light of day. We need to pull it out more often.
Give You Glory … another Camp tune. According to Planning Center, the band rekeyed this up to G to fit a female vocalist. Not my favorite song in the world, but other people seem to really like it.
Rain Down is an oldie but a goodie from Delirous.
Rock Star is one I’d never heard before. Very appropriate for the series. Gil does a great job on Third Day songs.
Becoming Who You Are is a great song from Mainstay. We bump this up 1/2 step to avoid detuning guitars. This was the first time I’d ever heard it with female vocals. Carmen’s voice fits the song quite nicely.
Home Sweet Home made a great encore. The song that made the power ballad popular!
The band: one male and two female vocalists, lead guitar, bass guitar, keys, and drums.

Yesterday didn’t quite go as planned…
I was supposed to pick up a 9 1/2 month old Weimaraner from a family trying to find a new home for him. The handoff had been scheduled when I was at their house on Monday. I tried to get hold of them Wednesday night to confirm the time and ask a few questions. Left a voice mail, but no call back.
Then Thursday morning, I received an email (responding to my Wednesday night email) stating that a family member was interested in him and they felt that situation would be an easier transition for him.
Oh…
I understand that they have to do what they think best for the dog. But couldn’t they have contacted me a little earlier? Maybe before I spent $113 at Petco Wednesday night. Or even better, before I told my kids Wednesday night that they were getting a dog!
As you can imagine, there were a lot of tears after school yesterday…
As you can imagine, Mom and Dad feel horrible…
As you can imagine, the kids want to find another dog immediately!
As you can imagine, we’ll probably be going to the Humane Society this weekend.
Here at The Mind of MandoRon, we occasionally like to offer public services, free of charge. So here goes!
Many of you are like my family, and you are wondering what to do with all of that leftover spiral-sliced, honey-glazed ham from Easter brunch/ lunch/ dinner/ supper. I thought it would be a good idea for all of us to band together and figure out what to do with all of that leftover ham. What were you thinking anyway, cooking a 10 lb. ham for a family of four?
So far, we’ve eaten:
On the list for later:

This is audience participation, people, so chime in! What are your family traditions for leftover ham? What are you taking for lunch today? What’s the grossest thing use that you’ve ever seen for leftover ham?
