Greetings and Salutations!
Before we get started, I want to call your attention to two things. First… the new Sunday Setlist header. Everyone else has one, so I figured I had to have one too. Is that coveting? Second, Fred McKinnon is celebrating the 52 week anniversary of his Sunday Setlist blog party. I think 52 weeks equals 1 year… Take a minute to go show him some love.
Today was week 3 of the “At The Movies” series at GracePoint. Mike Snow preached, using “Land of the Lost” as a sermon illustration. I was back on sound this week. As usual, the band was hot! Christina and Amy led the worship, and they always do an incredible job.
The setlist:
Never Going Back to OK has been all over the radio for the last year. It’s shown up once or twice at GP. I’ll be honest, I don’t particularly care for the song. The band did sound really good on it though.
Better is One Day… Denny rocked the heck out of his toms on this one. There’s some very nice tom-tom action on the Kutless version, which is why we like it. Rather than repeat the first verse, like Kutless does, we add in the second verse that shows up in other versions: “One thing I ask and I would seek / To see your beauty / To find you in the place your glory dwells”. Oh yeah… the band played this in the key of C (instead of G) to better fit the ladies’ range.
Sing My Love is a great song. It’s got a tasty little guitar solo to which Bruce added his own touch. Amy sang beautifully. I think one of the reasons that I like having this song in the lineup, is that it’s kind of a female-oriented song. A man would never write some of those lyrics… “He calls me lovely”, for example. But I’m guessing that women may identify with it more than they may do other songs. That’s just my pop psychology. Feel free to chime in with your opinion.
God of This City really got people worshipping this morning, and believing that God is going to move here in Wichita. GP, you sang loud this morning! We use the Chris Tomlin version off of Passion’s “God of this City” album. If you don’t know the background of this song, check out this post from last year with the story behind the song. It’s pretty interesting.
If Today was Your Last Day showed up two weeks ago, as well. However, last time it was acoustic. This was the first time for the full band. I’m not much of a Nickelback fan, but the song does have a great message and band was rockin’. Christina belted out the vocals.. much better than Nickelback, if you ask me.
Good times!
The band: 2 female vocalists, keys, drums, bass, and electric guitar.
I thought that I’d also add a picture showing my view from the mixer board. It was taken in the 2nd service during Better is One Day.

As always, feel free to add a comment with your thoughts. Have a great week!
