    Sunday Setlist… October 4, 2009

    October 4th, 2009

    sunday-setlist-header

Just finished my Sunday afternoon nap, so I figured it was time for the Sunday Setlist post.

Today was week 1 of the new “G-Force” series at GracePoint focusing on spiritual growth and turning the church into an Army of God.  The stage was decked out in camo netting, including the drum shield.  Yes, there was a drummer (Denny) back there.  Too bad I didn’t get a picture…

This was one of those cool God-days where the music and the message really synced, even though it wasn’t planned out.  I even asked Mike afterwards if he had picked scriptures after seeing the setlist.  He said no, it was a Holy Spirit-thing.

The Band: 2 female singers, electric guitar, electric mandolin (me), bass, and drums.

    The Setlist:

    • All Fired Up by Pat Benatar (walk-in)
    • The Time Has Come by Joel Houston/Hillsong (Melissa Wise version)
    • Sing to the King by Passion
    • Finding Who We Are by Kutless
    • You Are My King (Amazing Love) by Billy James Foote (Newsboys version)
    • No More No Less by Mercyme (offering)
    • All Fired Up (exit)

All Fired Up is a fun song, although I think I’m getting burned out on it.  It may not show up again for a little while…  It occurred to me this morning that all four of our ladies have sung this one, and they all absolutely rock on it.  Kudos to Jeff on the guitar solo.

The Time Has Come is one of my current favorites.  We use the Melissa Wise recording as the basis for what we do, although we cut about 2 minutes off the end…  I love listening to Carmen sing this.

Sing to the King is a GP favorite.  Christina always does an awesome job singing it, and today was no different.  Again, Jeff laid down a very nice guitar solo.

Finding Who We Are was a new one last week.  It wasn’t planned at all, but I thought it fit very well with the message today.  And the band did a great job on it again.  But I honestly can’t decide whether I like it or not.  It’s a very easy song to pick up and sing along with, which makes it very congregation friendly.  That same friendliness also makes it kind of “blah” for me.  Great lyrics, but maybe a little boring musically.  I’d love for you to chime in with your opinion on the song.

You Are My King (Amazing Love) is an oldie but a goodie.  Just a great worship song.  Christina did a great job of really engaging the people this morning.  You could really hear them singing it out!

No More No Less was really a Holy Spirit thing how it fit with Mike’s message and the scriptures he used.  This was Carmen’s first time singing the song in church and she did a great job.

I’m pumped!  We’ve really had 2 musically solid weeks in a row.  (I was out of town the week before, so I can’t comment on it…)  Can’t wait until next week!

As always, be sure to check out Fred’s Sunday Setlist Extravaganza to find out what other churches are singing.

Also be sure to add a comment with your thoughts on this week’s setlist.  I’d especially like to hear your thoughts on Finding Who We Are.

    Upcoming Live Music Opportunities

    October 2nd, 2009

I wanted to let you know about some upcoming live music opportunities.

First, Rise will be playing at Jerrys Bar & Grill tonight and Saturday night beginning at 9:30.  Rise is the best Wichita band that you’ve never heard of.  Why have you never heard of them?  Well, because this is their first gig.  How do I know they are good?  Because I know of all of them and all of them play in Edge of Grace at GracePoint Church.  Bruce, Carlos, Rod, Deric, Mike, Gil, and Amy have been working their tails off for this three-set gig.  Jerry’s is located at 630 N. Robin, near Central & Tyler.

Second, Edge of Grace will be playing next Saturday, October 10th, at the Maize Fall Festival again.  Come check us out at 7:00 pm.  Tommy, Jim, Denny, Carmen, Jamie, and I have also been hard at work for this one.  It should be a lot of fun, and it’s been a great outreach opportunity in the past.  You can find directions to Maize Municipal Park here.

You don’t want to miss these!

Here’s a few pictures from last year’s Maize Fall Festival!
