    1 Peter 4:10-11

    November 6th, 2009

I shared these verses with the band earlier this week, and I thought I should share them with you, as well.

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

    1 Peter 4:10-11 (NLT)

We’ve all been given gifts, talents, and abilities from God.  Sometimes, identifying those gifts can be difficult.  But once you’ve discovered your gifting, these verses challenge us with two things.

    1. Am I using my gifts to serve myself?  Or am I using my gifts to serve other people?
    2. Am I letting God multiply my gifts by using them within His plans?  When we’re serving within His will, he provides “strength and energy” to do more.

    Thoughts?

    Sunday Setlist… November 1, 2009

    November 1st, 2009

Where did October go?  It seems to have flown by awfully fast.  I actually started to type October in the title, but it ain’t October no more…

Today kicked off a new series at GracePoint - “Lovin’ the Hell Out of Wichita”.  This new series is going to focus on getting out and loving those who lives are a “living hell”.

Pastor Mike kicked off his message with this video.  I had seen it at The Leadership Summit last year.  Very powerful!

It was nice to have a full band back after last week.  And they did a great job!

    The setlist:

    • Come As You Are by Nirvana (walk-in)
    • Let God Arise by Chris Tomlin
    • Hosanna by Hillsong United
    • Grace Like Rain by Todd Agnew
    • You Are My King (Amazing Love) by Billy James Foote
    • You Found Me by The Fray (offering)
    • Come As You Are (exit)

Come As You Are … We hadn’t played this in a while.  It seemed like a perfect fit for the series.

Let God Arise is my favorite Tomlin tune, as I’ve mentioned before.  It had been a while since this one showed up on the setlist.

Hosanna is a powerful song.  I love the bridge on it.  In hindsight, it was kind of an abrupt transition from the previous song…

Grace Like Rain also had not been used in a long time.  Thomas made his GP debut on this song.  What a great voice!  He’s going to be a great addition to the band.

You Are My King … In case you’re interested, we use the Newsboys version/arrangement although in a different key.

You Found Me was a new one.  Some nice piano in it, like most songs by The Fray.  It was good to have Amy back this week!

The band:  two male vocals, one female vocal, drums, keyboard, bass, and electric guitar.
