    Sunday Setlist… January 24, 2010

    January 25th, 2010

    sunday-setlist-header

Sunday kicked off a new series at GracePoint called “The Red Zone”.  GP also celebrated the 6th birthday of the church, took a final offering to get the remodeling started on the building, and had a tailgate party.

I missed out on the whole thing, because I was driving back from the Santa Fe Mancation.  (More on that in a later post…)

    The setlist:

    • We Will Rock You by Queen (walk-in)
    • Speaking Louder Than Before by Jeremy Camp
    • Holding Nothing Back by Martin Smith and Tim Hughes (Jesus Culture version)
    • How He Loves by John Mark McMillan (Jesus Culture version)
    • Until the Whole World Hears by Casting Crowns
    • Revelation Song by Jenny Riddle (Jesus Culture version) (offering)
    • Broadcast by Fee (exit)

The band: 1 male and 1 female singer, electric guitar, bass, keys, and drums.

This post is part of the Sunday Setlist Blog Carnival on TheWorshipCommunity.com.

    Mancation

    January 20th, 2010

    Definition:

A group of guys going somewhere together for the purpose of doing nothing.  Typically involves a few life-long friends, poker chips, a grill, and for some of the guys, consuming beer and scotch.

    Use in a sentence:

The movie, “Wild Hogs” was about four friends hitting the road for a mancation.

    wild-hogs

    Footnotes:

    1. Since 1972, guys have been banned from bringing banjos with them.
    2. Two interesting subsets of the mancation, are the hunting trip and the fishing trip.  Guns and/or fly rods are featured in these mancations.

    Sunday Setlist… January 17, 2010

This post is part of the Sunday Setlist Extravaganza over at TheWorshipCommunity.com.

We wrapped up the “Now is the Time” series today at GracePoint.

    The setlist:

    • All Fired Up by Pat Benatar (walk-in)
    • Never Going Back to OK by The Afters
    • Let God Arise by Chris Tomlin
    • Amazing Grace
    • If We Are the Body by Casting Crowns
    • The Lost Get Found by Britt Nicole (offering)

All Fired Up was a great way to get people, ahem, all fired up…

Never Going Back to OK is one we hadn’t done in a while.  Not my favorite song in the world, but I thought it would fit the “Now Is the Time” theme well.

Let God Arise accidentally showed up two weeks in a row.  Oh well.  Good song!

Amazing Grace … Christina has been wanting to do this traditional hymn “House of the Rising Sun”-style for a while now.  It was our own arrangement:  two verses, guitar solo, two more verses, organ solo, repeat first verse.  I thought it turned our pretty well.

If We Are the Body fit in with Bryson’s message about “the harvest” today.  Great lyrics.

The Lost Get Found was a new one for us, and continued our (my?) occasional experimentation with pop songs.  I thought it sounded really good.  And it tied in perfectly after Bryson’s message.

The band:  vocals - Christina and Thomas, drums - Chris, keys - Rod, electric guitar - Bruce, bass - Eron.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new songs today.  Leave a comment!

    January 16th, 2010

gp-worship-night_1I think I’m still riding the high from last night’s, first ever, GracePoint Worship Night.  I don’t know if anyone counted, but I’d guess there were about 100 people there.  Thank you to everyone who came out and to everyone who helped behind the scenes.  You made it a huge success.

We definitely want to make this a regular occurrence.  Not sure how often though.  Maybe every 6 weeks, or something like that…
