    How can this be comfortable?

    December 12th, 2009

    how-can-that-be-comfortable

I don’t understand how my dog, Bullet, can sleep like this?  It can’t be comfortable…  On the other hand, he never asks to go to the chiropractor either.

    Maybe it’s dog yoga.

    Friday Miscellany

    July 17th, 2009

Is miscellany a real word?  I’m too lazy to go look.  It should be.  If not, I’m proposing that it be the correct noun form of the adjective, miscellaneous.

I went by Scooter’s this morning to get a cup of coffee on my way to take Bullet for a walk at the park.  I thought about trying to order a dog biscuit to go with the coffee, but changed my mind.  To my surprise, the gal at the window pulled out a jar of dog treats and offered Bullet one.   What a great example of exceptional customer service, and doing something above and beyond to retain customers.

I let Bullet off his leash for a while at the park.  He wandered into a pile of leaves and started rolling around in them.  There must have been something in the pile.  We’ve noticed that anytime he finds some animal, he has to roll in it.  He completely tunes us out until he’s done, too.  I’ve read that this is a natural instinct to mask their scent while hunting.  The funniest time was when he rolled around on a squirrel in the middle of an intersection.  There was a car coming and I couldn’t get him to move.  The guy slowed down and drove around him - laughing the whole time of course…

I wrote a song this week.  It’s been over a year since the last one.  I wasn’t really trying to, but it just happened.  I recorded acoustic guitar and vocals today, and sent it to my friend Buck.  He’s going to lay down some B-3 organ stuff.  Once that’s done, I plan on posting it for feedback.  It’s not a chart-topper, but it’s okay.  Needs a better vocalist…

I’m not really looking forward to going back to work on Monday.  I’ve really enjoyed having 4 weeks off.  I was pretty stressed out last winter, and didn’t get to recharge my batteries over the Christmas holidays.  I needed these last 4 weeks to relax and refocus.  Things have been crappy at work this year with all the layoffs, and I’m not sure it’s going to stop any time soon.

Now that all of that is off my chest, I feel much better.  We’re getting ready to watch The Goonies with the kids.

    Have a great weekend!

Bullet - a poem by Jada

    June 24th, 2009

Jada recently wrote this poem about our dog. She also drew this picture of Andrea walking Bullet to go with the poem.  I thought I would share.

    Bullet

Bullet is a good dog and a food dog.

Bullet is a fun dog, a run dog, and a lay-in-the-sun dog.

Bullet is a toy and a boy dog.

I love Bullet and he loves me.

If he loves me, I bet he will love you too.

    Bullet is a FUN dog,

    And a tired dog.

    It’s a Boy! … Dog …

    April 22nd, 2009

Thanks to the magic of craigslist, we rescued a stray dog from the Valley Center animal shelter yesterday.  He’s a lab mix.  Got some pointer, weimaraner, or something else in the DNA too.  We think he’s about a year old.  Andrea is going to take him to the vet this morning, so we’ll see what his input is.

The kids are ecstatic, as you can imagine.  Because he was a stray, we don’t know his name.  We’re leaning towards “Bullet” at the moment - named after the horse that runs out on the field whenever OSU scores a touchdown.  “Bolt” was in the running for a while too.

I think he may just be the perfect dog.  He’s sweet, gentle, and loves people.  He has completely made himself at home.  In fact, he’s asleep on the couch right now.  He ignores the cats even though they keep hissing at him.  He seems to be housebroke.  He’s got super short hair, which means he shouldn’t shed too badly.  I took him for a walk yesterday, and he behaved quite well.  He doesn’t know any commands like sit or stay, but he’s so eager to please that I don’t think it will be too hard to train him.

He was so excited when everyone woke up this morning.  He’s one happy dog!

    Here’s some pictures…
